Inclement Weather Riding Tips
Inclement Weather Riding Tips
If you plan to take EMBARK during inclement weather, here's what you need to know:
- Where to get service information
Conditions can change quickly. If there is a significant accumulation of snow, ice or freezing rain, some buses will be put on detour and others may be canceled. It is possible that buses won't be able to serve parts of a route, if they become too dangerous to drive on. Before you leave, get the latest updates on delays and cancelations:
- Visit our Winter Weather Detour page
- Check embarkok.com, Twitter: @embarkok and Facebook: EMBARKOK
- Call 235-RIDE (7433)
- Check local TV and radio stations
- Information on closures of EMBARK’s senior transportation programs will be available by 6:30am at 405-297-2583. Participants of other EMBARK mobility programs should contact their assigned Mobility Coordinator directly to discuss closures and cancellations.
2. Expect delays
If winter weather is present, there will be delays, however buses should still arrive at regular intervals. Use our Rider Tools to know when the bus is coming in real-time.
3. Dress appropriately
Extreme temperatures can be dangerous to anyone in a matter of minutes.
Additional Tips
- If your bus stop is in the middle of a hill, walk to the bottom where the operator can safely stop.
- Stand back from the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop. Buses can slide sideways in slippery conditions.
- Also, keep in mind your bus may not pull all the way over to the curb, to avoid getting stuck.
