Moving Students Forward

The sticky heat of summer is fading into the crispness of fall and carefree summer days have been replaced with more studious pursuits. It’s that time: a new school year is here. No matter how much students may (or may not) be dreading hitting the hallways once again, EMBARK has services designed to help Oklahoma City’s students get around the city.

HAUL PASS

Haul Pass helps students get to and from school, as well as extra-curricular activities, part-time jobs and more. Juniors and seniors who attend high school within the EMBARK service area are eligible for free. Not a Junior or Senior? We've got you covered too. Students in middle school through 10th grade can receive unlimited rides for $10 per month. EMBARK’s service area can be viewed here. Haul Pass provides a picture youth ID card and free ($10 for students middle school to 10th grade) unlimited regular bus and streetcar service to eligible students. In 2018, nearly 300 students signed up for the service.

Oklahoma City Public Schools’ Pathway to Greatness program, which includes new boundary zones for every school, began this year. Students who have traditionally used public transit to get to and from school may use a new route this year. A guide listing out schools, the closest EMBARK route and the closest stops is below:

ROAD SCHOLARS

Road Scholars is another EMBARK program designed for schools. It provides free transportation for field trips and other school-related events to and from schools and locations within EMBARK’s service area. Groups get on and off buses traveling along EMBARK routes at a bus stop and travel to their destination with other EMBARK riders. Road Scholars can accommodate groups of approximately 25 on weekdays between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It’s a great tool for learning outside of the classroom!

Schools from all over the metro have used Road Scholar to travel to places like the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library, Oklahoma City Zoo, Myriad Botanical Gardens, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and more. Last year, nearly 30 trips were scheduled through the Road Scholars program. Contact EMBARK to plan your trip today and they will help with the trip planning process!

Haul Pass and Road Scholars are great examples of EMBARK partnering with the community to encourage the use of public transit and move our citizens forward together!
