EMBARK will be offering free rides during Election Day, November 3, 2020, to help all eligible Oklahoma City residents exercise their right to vote.
“Public transportation provides Oklahoma City residents with mobility options and what better way to leverage those options than to allow free transportation for residents to participate in the democratic process,” said Jason Ferbrache, EMBARK Administrator. “With free rides on EMBARK buses, EMBARK Plus and Oklahoma City Streetcar, we hope to encourage participation while removing a potential barrier.”
According to Brookings, high voter turnout levels could mean 145 million cast votes this year, eclipsing the 133 million mark made in 2016. With the possibility of a higher volume of votes being cast, access to public transit is vital to those who need it.
Bus, Streetcar, and Zone 1 ADA rides will be free for all on Election Day, regardless of destination. EMBARK encourages all customers to consider making a plan now, as capacity is limited and new riding rules including wearing face coverings apply. Residents should determine where their designated polling place is located and how they will get there using embarkok.com to plan their route or call 405-235-7433 (RIDE). Information about what to bring with you to vote is available at usa.gov/election-day.
Absentee ballots for voting by mail can be found on the Oklahoma State Election Board website.
